Dance is for Everyone
“Dance is for everybody. I believe that the dance came from the people and it should always be delivered back to the people.” – Alvin Ailey.
Dance is a beautiful art form and what makes it truly unique is that one can share the experience with so many people. Whether one wants to have fun, get some exercise, challenge oneself to learn and grow, or immerse oneself in it’s intricacies, dance is for everyone! Dance transcends the barriers of sex, race, ethnicity, age, ability, background and income. It is all-encompassing and all-inclusive and everyone can open themselves to the joy it brings, regardless of previous training or experience.
It can truly change one’s life and imbibe one with confidence and positive energy. Dancing produces endorphins in the body which enhance one’s sense of well-being. It helps align the mind and body. There is also a great social aspect to it, as one is constantly meeting and interacting with people. Try rehearsing with a group, going on stage & not forming some kind of a bond!
Dance is a manifestation of joy. People dance to express joy and sorrow and to share experiences. The sense of community and sharing that dancing can bring is just incredibly special. As Agnes de Mille eloquently expressed, “to dance is to be out of yourself. Larger, more beautiful, more powerful… This is power, it is glory on earth and it is yours for the taking.”
We, at Mona Khan Company, truly feel blessed to live and breathe dance on a daily basis. We love sharing this incredible art form with hundreds of Bay Area residents. Encouraging seasoned dancers as well as people walking into a dance class for the first time, along with our special programs for Jollywood (senior citizens) and Jeena (children with special needs), we truly believe that dance is for everyone!
